Misfits P1

1) What is the purpose of the dialogue used?

The Purpose of the dialogue is to help the audience get an idea and understanding of each of the character's. As it's the first opening scene the audience don't know how to look at each character because they don't know what they are like for example, their origin,  the crime that they have committed and even there social class.

Nathan:

Type- Class clown/Joker.
Tone- Sarcastic, mocking, acerbic, sharp, faux, politeness, confident.
Volume: Clear, loud, speak first in the sequence so quite dominant.
Accent: Irish, high pitched, lyrical.
Manipulative, argumentative, confrontational, insensitive, free-willing, child like.

In this sequence, Nathan come across as like the 'class clown' as he is constantly making jokes up  about and to people but not in an aggressive or nasty way. When he speaks he almost sounds a bit childish and immature but its suits him and his characters which makes the audience like him and enjoy him on screen as he makes you laugh and if anything bring most of the entertainment to any scene that he is in. It also makes it hard to decide or tell what social background Nathan is because of the way he speaks and the vocabulary he uses because he speaks very clear and very loud but he does not swear or says anything that could of been any offence.

Simon:

Type: Shy, mysterious
Tone: No confidence,  innocence
Volume:  Doesn't talk in the sequence

In this sequence you can't really tell the personality of Simon or his social status as he doesn't talk and the most of the sequence is always referring back to Nathan so you don't even see much of Simon.

Kurtis:

Type: Uptight, stubborn
Tone: Sarcastic, confident, clear
Volume: loud, slang.

In this sequence, Kurtis come across as if he already has abit of a high status or is expected to be respected due to the way he spoke to other people and the comments he makes such as "I shouldn't be here". The way that he is standing as well shows you that he feels relaxed and not threatened by any one there. He is also the only person that Nathan doesn't insult or make a comment to so he must have a confident personality but but they was he speaks which is wit slang suggest that his social background is working class.

Kelly:

Type: Gobby, argumentative
Tone: Loud, unclear, bad vocabulary
Volume: Middle eastern accent.
In this scene Kelly come across as the gobby one who likes to argue and disagree with people
when she feels threatened like when Kurtis make a comment she is the first to jump to it and defend herself. Kelly is a 'chavy' character who looks a bit tacky but there is a lot more to her that what you first see but you can instantly see her social class and you can imagine what her background would be, she is working class and looks like a typical loud mouth youth.

Alisha:

Type: Flirty, girly girl, lack of respect
Tone: Ignorant,
Volume: Argumentative/back chat

In this sequence Alisha come across as the girl that attracts alot of male attention as she is very flirty and you can tell she love the attention and is ignorant because of it. She is also a bit careless and has lack of respect for authority as she answers the phone while her probation worker is talking to her, which shows that she dont really care about what she does. she is abit hard to figure out as you can really tell what social background she has but more than likely she is working class.

Gary:

Type: Chavy, aggressive,
Tone: slang, swears
Volume: loud,
In this sequence you can instantly tell the personality of Gary by the way he dresses, body language and the way he speaks. Gary is a passively aggressive person and thinks he is boss as he starts on Nathan because he feels threatened by what he says, but this could then suggest that he is a insecure about himself. You can tell that he doesn't have much of a status in the gang as he turns to aggression to help him out, so from what you see you can tell the Gary is a stereotypical chavy, wearing caps, talking in slang and swearing but all of this just
helps you decide about his social class and his background which he is probably very low working class and he is someone that you can imagine that is on benefits and does drugs etc.
